Johor Overview
Located at the southern tip of the Peninsula, Johor Bahru is the state capital of Johor Darul Takzim. JB, in short, was established in 1855 by the late Sultan Abu Bakar (the Father of Modern Johor) and now serves as the administrative and commercial center of the state. Its present name, Johor, is derived from an Arabic word 'Jauhar' which means Precious Stones.
The capital of the state is Johor Bahru, the third largest state on the Malaysian Peninsular. It has eight districts including Johor Bahru, Pontian, Batu Pahat, Muar, Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi. Johor Bahru has a number of interesting historical buildings and handicraft centers. Outside the state capital in the smaller towns and villages along the coast, are picturesque scenes of rural kampungs and fishing villages. Those who prefer to bask in the tropical sun can choose between the well-known beaches.
